I bag lettuce in half-pound bags and put out only about 4-5 bags on ice packs -- yes to misting, shading from sun and breeze. Maybe look at the other end of the process too -- harvest very early in the morning, shade the bin you're cutting into, run to the cooler, etc. Tom (central NC)

I think we had some discussion last year about displaying lettuce at market. Last week my lettuce wilted nearly as fast as I could put it on the table. I've tried the frozen gel packs, misting, wet towels etc... nothing really works. If I leave lettuce in the coolers we don't sell as much.
As anyone come up with a way to display lettuce and keep it fresh looking?
We've got warm weather and high winds. Very high winds.
Barking Cat Farm: I'd love to hear how you have lettuce all summer as soon as you get some time.
