This is only one example, but I know of several Austrees that were planted in
1992 at a local home here in Michigan. They got regular watering from the
lawn irrigation system and grew quickly, as advertised. In 2004, they were
probably 20+ feet tall, but more than half of them had died or were dying,
from what, I don't know. That, and their habit of dropping dead sticks, kind
of soured me on Austrees, at least for any area where I would want a "nice"
tree. As a windbreak they may be fine, but maybe not long lasting.
