Following are the unrequested on-tap aphorisms regarding this thread:

"Some can read War and Peace and come away believing it is a simple

Reiss (in Wired's "Encyclopedia of the New Economy", Wired 6.04)

"He ought to study grammar amongst the other helps of speaking well, but
it must be the grammar of his own tongue, of the language he uses, that he
may understand his own country speech nicely, and speak it properly,
without shocking the ears of those it is addressed to, with solecisms and
offensive irregularities." Locke, John, Some Thoughts Concerning
Education: Part X.

The object of education is to prepare the young to educate themselves
throughout their lives. -Robert Maynard Hutchins

Perhaps the most valuable result of all education is the ability to make
yourself do the thing you have to do, when it ought to be done, whether
