If you have to replace it, try to locate it in the house or under the house-
somewhere protected from the elements and it will last longer. It can be
anywhere on the cold water side of your system- there's no rule saying it
has to be outside in the wellhouse or under one of those ridiculous
"well-rock" things.

I put ours at an inside corner of the basement under the kitchen where it is freeze-proof and up on concrete blocks which makes it much easier to drain of sediment occasionally.
