Thanks much for your answer, here's what I've got from an untouched Linux
version 2.6.16.72 (SUSE Linux):

/usr/bin/odbc_config
/usr/bin/odbcinst

then:

/usr/lib/libodbccr.so.1 -> libodbccr.so.1.0.0
/usr/lib/libodbcinst.so -> libodbcinst.so.1.0.0
/usr/lib/libodbcinst.so.1 -> libodbcinst.so.1.0.0
/usr/lib/libodbc.so -> libodbc.so.1.0.0
/usr/lib/libodbc.so.1 -> libodbc.so.1.0.0
libodbccr.so.1.0.0
libodbc.so.1.0.0
libodbcinst.so.1.0.0

and:

/user/lib/unixODBC/libodbcdrvccfg*.so.1 (or .so.1.00)
/user/lib/unixODBC/libodbcminiS* etc...
/user/lib/unixODBC/libodbcmyS*
/user/lib/unixODBC/libodbcnnS*
/user/lib/unixODBC/libodbcpsql*
/user/lib/unixODBC/libodbctxt*
etc..

Now I can see in freetds-0.91/config.log:
conftest.c:65:17 error: sql.h: No such file or directory
and
configure:16582: error: sql.h not found

I'm not sure what to do. I was about to download a fresh unixODBC but our
sysad
is indicating it could clash with our old Linux versions (2.2.6 on my local,
but is 2.4.21 on the server that we'll need it eventually).

TDS version=7.2 yes, not 7.20 - thanks!
