Here's something that's been buggine me:

When i bought the Toshiba T4800CT (for $13.33 !),
the hard-drive was completely blank. So i installed
BL onto it as the only OS.

I found a website listing how to get into CMOS setup.
Laptops are highly variable in this respect.
For the T4800 (without CT) hold down ESC during boot.
Other laptops require F1, F2, F10, Ctrl-Alt-Shift, etc. (For most of our desktops the magic key is DEL, for some it is F2.)

You should get a menu with submenus that lets you set date and time in CMOS, which will be retained if the battery still has a charge.
The computer may date from 1990 - is is really that old?

Now, everytime i turn on the machine, it calculates
the date from the day that i installed BL, but it
thinks that that day was January 1, 1990.

I reset the date every time i reboot, if i remember
to do it, but a lot of times i forget, so now the
dates on my files are all messed up.

Is there a way to set a more permanent date?
I thought maybe it was messed up because there's
probably a nearly-dead CMOS battery or something
like that ... but it obviously remembers the
amount of time that has passed since the day
i bought it.
