I am using the 2 floppy version of bl3 to try to connect to the web,
I am using a DSL modem and a router ( Linksys befsr41 router ) I try
to run "netsetup" by typing netsetup at the # prompt

netsetup is an editable script (you will find it in /root).
Until you edit it, netsetup does nothing.

my other computer that is running windows xp I goto
start -> run -> command -> and type-in " ipconnfig "
and here is what I get:
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
ip address 192.168.1.100
default gateway 192.168.1.1

How do you (physically) connect to the router/modem?
I am using a Nec PCI card and cat5 cable the DSL comes into a Modem then cat5 to the Linksys befsr41 router with cat5 to each computer, I have never had any trouble connecting with Damn small linux or Knoppix but BasicLinux or bl3 seems to be dificult to setup, I have tried everything except editing netsetup, I mean I tries all the insmod/s and ifconfig eth0 198.168.1.100 and nothing seems to work, I am a newbie and am embarrassed at this next question, do I need to edit netsetup and try to run it ? It looks like script and it may need to be run ? If I do need to edit netsetup what do I use to edit it ? and how? would the word processor do it ? I forgot to mention , My router is "WIRE" no wireless here....
I tried all the suggestions several times and still no connection ?

If it is via a network card, then you first need to
activate it (by insmod-ing the appropriate module).
Then do:
--------------------------------
ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.100
route add default gw 192.168.1.1
--------------------------------

Cheers,
Steven
