I don't really agree with that. It's a convenient way to guarantee that everyone who needs one can have a globally unique package name without a lot of effort. It works pretty well.
BTW: What is the preferred pronunciation of "nu.xom"? "noo dot zom"? "en yoo dot ex oh em"?
"noo dot zom". That's probably one for the FAQ when I get around to writing
it.
