Hey friends. I hope you are excited for this week of programming. We have some returning shows that looking pretty neat! Check it out:
Tune into the Inside Track at 9 PM tonight Swedish
electro vets Frak offer up their best record to date with pleasureful and
aggressive robot thumps expertly tempered with chilled out and intentionally
stark percussive work. Fantastic amalgram of freaked out electro a la Crème or
Clone Records, churning house music and light industrial sounds, with almost no
filler whatsoever.
Tonight on the New Science Experience DJ's Rob and
Trev will be working the ones and twos exploring the WXYC library. From ten tomidnight they'll be spinning the classics and
unearthing the oddities -- all for your aural pleasure!
This week on Hell or High
Water, you'll be hearing Hawaiian Steel
Guitar Classics 1927-1938, a collection of the best lap steel players Hawai'i
had to offer. Featuring unreleased tracks from revivalist Bob Brozman's
private collection, the album contains both virtuosic playing and a fun
tropical vibe. Be prepared to listen and dance along Sunday from
1-2 pm!
This week's Broken Music will feature the first of a two part series featuring the Electronic Voice Phenomenon (EVP) recordings compiler Michael Esposito. For over 30 years the Chicago-based Esposito has captured allegedly paranormal communications from locations all over the world, including Jim Morrison's gravesite and a number of haunted buildings. This week's show will highlight Esposito's collaborative recordings of processed EVP materials with artists like CM Von Hausswolf, Leif Elggren, FM Einheit, Kommissar Hjuler, John Duncan and others.
Tune in at 8 PM on Sunday for the Backyard BBQ with your lovely host Lincoln! Catch up with your buddy as his spins some familiar and forgotten local tracks for your viewing pleasure. VIVA LA TRIANGLE.
From 9-10PM Sports Rap hosts Reilly F and Sarah H (and
friends) will recap the week in college, professional, and fantasy football. They
will also ask the question: if college athletes should not be paid, who else
shouldn't? Listen, call in, tweet in (@dunksbutts)!
Don’t forget about the Outside Track
at 9 PM on Monday! Tune in this week for
this week’s release from Richard Youngs, Summer
Through My Mind. Described by Youngs as his “country album”, this release
is strictly composed of acoustic guitar-playing with occasional slide overdubs.
Youngs’ vocals are familiarly crooning and his lyrical content ranges from
somber to uplifting to wistful.
We are starting the first Global Music Show series of the semester this Wednesday at 9 PM with a show that will focus on Lebanese, Syrian, Egyptian and Tunisian underground artists in the context of the Arab uprisings since 2011. The show, "Underground Music and the Arab Uprisings," will feature special guest UNC professor Dr. Zeina G. Halabi who teaches modern Arabic literature and culture in the Asian studies department.
