JIMMIE RODGERS on Hell or High Water, Sunday 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Jimmie Rodgers on Hell or High Water. Known as the "Singing Brakeman" and the "Mississippi Blue Yodeler," Jimmie Rodgers was the first nationally known star of country music and a direct influence on many later performers, including Hank Snow, Ernest Tubb,Hank Williams, Lefty Frizzell
and Merle Haggard. During his short career he fused
hillbilly country, gospel, jazz, blues, pop, cowboy, and folk into
compositions steeped
in his working class roots, and these songs coupled with Rodgers' distinctive
yodeling
style endeared him to many.
