ESPERS, self-titled, on the Inside Track, Wednesdsay 9 p.m.
The debut full-length by this Philadelphia psychewdelic folk trio
featuring singer/songwriter Greg Weeks, Meg Baird and Brooke Sietinsons is
a meloncholic foray through enchanted wilds reminiscent of the vintage
British folk of Anne Briggs, Pentangle, or the Incredible String Band. Out
on Locust Music.

THE PORTRAYAL & CELEBRATION OF WOMEN IN POPULAR MUSIC on the Thursday
Night Feature, Thursday 9 p.m.-midnight
To kick off WXYC's series on women in music, coinciding with Women's
History Month, we're going to take a time-out for three hours and examine
exactly what it has meant to be a woman in the popular music of the 20th
and 21st centuries. Through examining music of all genres performed by
both men and women, we'll look to ask basic questions such as: What is the
role of the woman as a musician? As a muse for other musicians? How has
her role changed? How does she treat herself, and how do men
counterbalance that portrayal? We'll be asking all those questions and
more, but it's the music--and it will be good music--that's going to be
providing the answers. The last hour of the show will be open to callers
who want to express their opinion or just suggest an appropriate song, so
feel free to fire up your radio, sit back, enjoy some fantastic tunes, and
learn a thing or two while you're at it!

EARLY CAROLINA WOMEN JAZZ SINGERS on Hell or High Water, Sunday 1 p.m.
Tune in this week as we explore women jazz singers from North and South
Carolina who recorded with their bands during the 1920s and '30s.

Charlotte, Josie Miles of Sommerville, and Bertha "Chippie" Hill of
Charleston.
