CELIA CRUZ on the Thursday Night Feature, Thursday 9 p.m.-midnight
Queen of Salsa, and a legend in her own right, CELIA CRUZ died July 16,
2003. Cruz debuted in the 1940s and recorded more than 70 albums. She
won the first Latin Grammy Award for Best Tropical Album. Although she is
no longer here, her music lives on in song, culture and fans worldwide.
Join your host this Thursday in exploring Cruz's music and influence on
the style of music known internationally as Salsa. Tune in to enjoy Cruz's
music, and learn more about other little known SON artists.

Live Interview with THE CLIENTELE, Saturday 4:30 p.m.
Tune in Saturday afternoon for an exclusive on-air interview with
London-based Merge recording artists THE CLIENTELE. They will be
performing that evening at Go! Studios in support of their critically
acclaimed new album "The Violet Hour." For more information about this

POX WORLD EMPIRE on the Backyard Barbeque, Sunday 8 p.m.
This week, agents of the POX WORLD EMPIRE, Zeno Gill and Mark Lebetkin,
rendezvous on the BBQ to share with WXYC listeners their forthcoming CD
compilation, "Compulation: Volume One, Songs from North Carolina." In
their own words: "Holding the mutual belief that the Triangle music scene
is in the midst of a renaissance, [we] wanted to release a collection of
some of the best music [we] know, locally or anywhere." Tune in for the
aperitif this Sunday, then be present when five of the 21 featured groups
- THE SAMES, THE ROSEBUDS, DES_ARK, NORTH ELEMENTARY, and COLD SIDES -
perform at the WXYC-sponsored official CD release party Saturday,

Live interview with NEW KLEZMER TRIO, Monday 7 p.m.
Join us as we welcome veteran downtown NYC clarinetist Ben Goldberg of the
NEW KLEZMER TRIO, who have released three highly regarded albums on Tzadik
and Nine Winds combining elements of jazz and improvisation with the
Jewish tradition. Goldberg and bandmates bassist Dave Seamans and
drummer Kenny Wollesen will be performing the following evening, Tuesday
September, 16 in Hill Hall on the UNC campus; the concert is co-sponsored
by the Carolina Union Activities Board, North Carolina Hillel, Carolina
Center for Jewish Studies, Alpha Epsilon Pi, and WXYC.
