MAMAR KASSEY, "Alatoumi" on the Inside Track, Wednesday 9 p.m.
>From the edge of the Sahel desert in Niger comes the nine-member group
Mamar Kassey. Led by singer-songwriter Yacouba Moumouni, Mamar Kassey's
second album Alatoumi, on the World Village label, takes traditional
West African music and brings it into the present, resulting in some hot
and sweet dance music.

GREG RIBOT in an on-air interview on Thursday 5:30 p.m.
Tune in to hear acclaimed composer, arranger, and musician Greg Ribot
speak with WXYC prior to his upcoming performance at 8:30 p.m. Thursday
night in the Great Hall of the UNC Student Union. Mr. Ribot will be
performing alongside fellow musician Francisco Navarro and tango dancers
Laura and Pedro Escudero in a celebration of Argentinian music and
dance.

BOOM BIP, "Seed to Sun" on the Inside Track, Friday 9 p.m.
Anticon producer boom bip's solo album is an exploration of psychedelic
electronica infused with the distinctly anticon hip hop sound. A
winding,
surrealistic listen, featuring guest MC doseone.

SMASHING PUMPKINS, "Gish" on the Classic Inside Track,
Sunday 2-3 p.m.
Alt-rockers Smashing Pumpkins' 1991 debut album "Gish" has often been
overlooked in favor of the band's later, more commercially successful
work.
But you haven't heard the Pumpkins until you've heard "Gish"; its
mixture
of post-Sabbath grind, arena-rock bluster, and psychedelic dream pop
makes
it not only the band's most unique album, but perhaps their best and
most
influential as well. The strains of "Gish" are heard in the work of
bands
such as Mogwai, Hum, 12 Rods and Sunny Day Real Estate, but the album
also
stands on its own eleven years later, a testament to the skill of one of
the best bands in an early-Nineties American rock scene that wasn't
exactly
lacking for talent.

New and Old Perspectives from the African-American Community with NANCIA
and YONNI on Northern Hemisphere Live, Sunday 5-7 pm.
On this Sunday's NHL, Nancia, Yonni, and Rose and Joe Odom will discuss
current issues related to the African-American community from the
perspectives of their respective generations. Listeners are invited to
call in and participate.

ODDFELLOWS CASINO, "Yellow Bellied Wonderland" on the Inside Track,
Monday 9 p.m.
Positively dashing debut full-length from Brighton, UK-based pop
songsmith
David Bramwell, aka Oddfellows Casino. Dense arrangements of strings,
horns, keyboards, a smattering of electronics, and expertly executed
balladry make for an elegant and dainty cumulative aural experience. Out
on Pickled Egg Records.
