Looking forward to a local (Boston) date for one of the Gang of Four
reunion shows, as Hugo Burnham lives/works locally and is friendly
with Mission of Burma.
Hugo Burnham sent me some kind words in my legwork in getting the
Nightingales to play Boston. Their first LP Pigs on Purpose was just
reissued on Cherry Red, and Dan's label Acute has put out the flat-out
stellar The Prefects...are Amateur Wankers, the never before on CD and
absolutely rare recordings of the Nightingales' previous incarnation.
If you claim to like postpunk and don't have either yet, you're in the
dark...
So consider this a shout-out for attendance, encouragement, and
gruntwork for a possible Nightingales show in Boston. If you're in
the area, or within driving distance, please attend if it happens; or
get in touch directly with me for any other reason.
This would be in late March, and the band is scheduled to play Austin
(SXSW), Chicago (w/Jon Langford), and NYC.
Robert Lloyd (lead singer/songwriter) could also be considered a
typical girls patron of the arts, as he managed, produced and released
records by We've Got a Fuzzbox and We're Gonna Use It. And according
to a great set of liner notes by John Peel, when we are distanced
enough from the period of the 1980s, most other bands in comparison to
the Nightingales will be revealed as charlatans.
