You can check the kernel options by looking
in /usr/src/linux-<kernel-version>/.config for, I think, CONFIG_DEVPTS_FS=y
(or '=m', but I would think that '=y' would be better). If you have that,
then the problem is probably caused by something else. If it says 'is not
set', then you will have to recompile your kernel, and enable for that option
in File Systems.
