I was using xdirectfb for a week but i hadn't fixed up the depends requires
stuff so it got dispelled when i ran cast --fix and something thought it
needed xfree86.
xdirectfb only works if you boot with framebuffer graphics, but it works very
well.(details are in DETAILS) There is also a kernel patchset for directfb
"fusion" but i haven't got around to writing the patch data file for, you can
find the patches in the patches dir of your directfb tarball. the 2.4.21
patch works fine on 2.4.22 also.
Currently to apply the patch I said yes to configure kernel, then when make
menuconfig is run i vt switched, patched the source tree, switched back,
exited make menuconfig, said yes to repeat make menuconfig and now the option
for "fusion" was under "character devices" if i recall correctly.
It did misdetect (eratic movement and bad input event polling) my ps2 mouse
as
PS2 instead of IMPS2 so i finally removed the usb->ps2 adapter and started
using it the way god intended, then it worked fine. You also need to stop gpm
or a ghost mouse will pixelate your regular pointers movements. Also there is
an option (experimantal :) ) for it but i haven't figured out how to do it so
vt switching while the "XDirectFBServer" is running and has "control" of the
framebuffer.
You can Change the opacity of any window by holding "Meta" and using the
mouse wheel, it starts without configuration or a XF86Config file and except
for opengl it is hardware accelerated. I specifically made it conflict with
xfree86 as it seemed like too much trouble to go to just for an "extra" ???

Anyway my builds of both xfree86 and xfree86-devel completed fine while i
slept so i will move them into "test" today.
