Hi,

If I understood things correctly, the way to go about this is to

cast -c -r linux

It'll give you the nice 'menu_config' thingy, you can set all options and
it'll compile the kernel. You might want to make sure that you have a backup
of your old kernel though! and don't forget to run lilo afterwards!

The kernel casting process has been stable for me for quite some time.

lilo will run automatically, but the entry for the new kernel has to be
added manually if it's not there yet. E.g., if you had 2.4.21-pre6 and
compiled 2.4.21-pre7 just now, add entry to lilo.conf about it and run
lilo yourself.
