This is not the only problem. Another problem is that the version in the
installed file is being gotten from the OLD version of sorcery that is
being replaced, hence if you track devel, then switch to stable, your
version is still devel.

?? This is fixing the symptom? I think this is just making things worse
the more "special case" clauses we put in the more this kind of thing
will cause strange problems.

The proposal that was made was an extensive re-vamping of the way
variables are handled. I don't think that fix is relevant to this release.
