thomas, you're not listening to me, no one is making this into a holy war.
We're
rational people and we're trying to work through this in a rational way
through
reasoning. If was to make this a holy war I would have long since marked it
invalid. If I can give you my opinion, i think you're the one who keeps
escalating this problem and reading into it things that simply are not
there...

Im trying to resolve the issue but you continue to bring up points we've
already
agreed upon and ignoring the questions Im asking, you're making it very
difficult to make any progress.

I AGREE with you that the current behavior is WRONG. Always removing symlinks
is
certainly INCORRECT, that is a bug. I have never disagreed with you there.
Those
symlinks should NOT be deleted in your particular situation. I also AGREE that
users SHOULD be allowed use symlinks in that way. I have never disagreed with
you there, either. I do NOT question the validity of the bug.

The things I am trying to communicate with you about:
1) the SEVERITY of the bug
2) the way to FIX the bug

Severity: there are workarounds, therefore the problem is not critical.
Workarounds are not going to be perfect, by definition, but they're better
than
getting poked in the eye.

Proposed fix: your proposed fix is useful in that you show me what you want
the
behavior to be. Given the range of scenarios symlinks can create, however, I
suggest that the problem warrants further investigation so as not to make
things
WORSE than they already are.

Im tired of repeating those points above. I dont know how to make them any
more
direct. If your next reponse is going to be essentially repeat of your
previous
with the same concerns, then Im going to defer you to the project lead who
might
be able to explain this in a way that makes more sense. The problems you keep
bringing up are not under question, we're past them.

Given that there are several viable workarounds and the potential for problems
by making a hasty un-researched fix, I am postponing this bug to the 1.15.x
timeframe. At which time the issue of how symlinks are tracked and dealt with
will be thoroughly investigated and this issue will be brought to resolution.
