Summary: config file protection: overwrite vs backup - when to
ask
Product: Sorcery
Version: Untargetted future release
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P2
Component: Cast
AssignedTo: sm-sorcery-bugs AT lists.ibiblio.org
ReportedBy: drjschn AT gmx.de

We had a small discussion on #sourcemage about configfile protection:

Let's summarize what i grasped about how sorcery handles config files.

Config files are backed up before INSTALL. After INSTALL sorcery checks for
differences and asks wether to replace, backup the old, or backup the newly
installed configfiles.

The problem here is that the question is asked in the middle of a cast.

lynxlynxlynx and subokus mentioned the gentoo way of doing it, where this
issue
is handled by a separate tool and done way after installing.

<lynxlynxlynx>: this whole config merging thing could be separated out of cast

We thought it might be neat to move the questions to the end or completely out
of the cast. This bug so we won't forget.
