Well I am having some better luck :))
Have managed to get 2.6.0 to compile and load.

I receive the following warnings during boot though
and wondered if anyone knew how to fix them:

1) ## I think these errors are something to do with devfsd setup?
EXT3-fs: mounted filesystem with ordered data mode.
VFS: Mounted root (ext3 filesystem) readonly.
Mounted devfs on /dev
Freeing unused kernel memory: 124k freed
INIT: version 2.85 booting
mount: devfs already mounted or /dev busy
Started device management daemon v1.3.25 for /dev
Activating swap... Adding 1004020k swap on /dev/discs/disc0/part10.
Priority:-1
extents:1 [
OK ]
EXT3-fs warning: maximal mount count reached, running e2fsck is
recommended
EXT3 FS on hde3, internal journal
Mounting local filesystems...
modprobe: FATAL: Module shm not found.

mount: fs type shm not supported by kernel

This also gives me a "failed" error once all partitions have been
loaded.

2) ## syslogd warning?
process `syslogd' is using obsolete setsockopt SO_BSDCOMPAT

Happy for any suggestions?
