Howdy again,
I think it is time to make one LAST mailing to you all with regards to the
questions that are being raised about several issues. I am not happy to have
to keep changing things around and seeing everyone updating their sections as
they see fit.
I have taken time to update the GURU HANDBOOK in the wiki, version 2.3. I
hope
that things are a bit clearer with regards to the MD5, SOURCE_URL's and such.
If not please let me know and I will try to clarify it in the handbook
(please submit text for inclusion then...).
**********************************************************
MD5
One problem is the MD5 check has been implemented in the coming release of
sorcery 0.8 I believe will be out tomorrow... it was not possible to
implement the md5 check on compressed files. I have included the link to
duffelbunks script that will (update_spell.sh) do it for you (no
decompressing, md5summing and such by hand).
I can only hope that you all are no too mad about this, but it has to be
done.
The decision was not communicated to me at all, it was just implemented. My
apologies for the extra work. If you think you will be unable to get this
done by Oct 10, please let me know in time and I will attempt to help out.
SOURCE_URL
I have added some info based on how it was published by the Sorcery Team's
implementation. The new release deals with these multiple url's as described
in the handbook and link there.
MISC
I have also updated the file layouts to include comments between [ ] to show
the proper spacing and tabbing in HISTORY and section reports. This is due to
the browser morfing of the layouts, thus via wiki it will never look right
compared to an actual file in the spells. Lets try to keep the formats up to
standards.
**********************************************************
I can only add that I REALLY appreciate the patience and hard work that,
although the rules of the game are constantly changing, you all put forth. I
hope these changes will not take away from the enjoyment of working on a free
software project. I know that I hate it when more work is created, but
problems with timely communication seem to be inherent to working on a Linux
distro! We learn to roll with the punches. ;)
Thanks again all and keep up the good work, it is an honor to work with you.
PS. To all the users out there that are reading this list, the next time you
see one of your Guru's on the irc or lists, give him a clap on the shoulder,
he has been working hard to make the best 1.0 release he can (or even better,
offer a hand with his work/testing!).
