Hi all,

I'm wondering how to get the C.UTF-8 locale. I just updated glibc after
a long time (was on a version before that memcpy optimzation that broke
things like the flash plugin), but it doesn't seem to be present.

I would need such a locale for checking out the current netpanzer
sources (I'm trying to update the spell and I don't see a plain download):

svn checkout --non-interactive -r HEAD
svn://svn.berlios.de/netpanzer/tags/netpanzer/0.8.4 netpanzer-0.8.4
...
A netpanzer-0.8.4/pics/flags/benin.bmp
svn: Can't convert string from 'UTF-8' to native encoding:
svn: netpanzer-0.8.4/pics/flags/panam?\195?\161.bmp
Download of netpanzer-0.8.4.tar.bz2 failed

LC_ALL=C.UTF-8 svn checkout --non-interactive -r HEAD
svn://svn.berlios.de/netpanzer/tags/netpanzer/0.8.4 netpanzer-0.8.4
svn: warning: cannot set LC_CTYPE locale
svn: warning: environment variable LC_ALL is C.UTF-8
svn: warning: please check that your locale name is correct

Now, disregarding the wisdom of creating non-ascii file names in a SVN
repository, this shouldn't be an issue in a today's world where
everyone should be using Unicode-capable file systems (and yes, I know
that the filesystem doesn't care in our case ... it's subversion being
the nanny).

The download works when setting LC_ALL=de_DE.UTF-8, but I'd rather have
sorcery use a generic locale that is always present. I read about glibc
providing C.UTF-8, and debian seems to use it nowadays (?). Did anyone
of you spot this locale yet? I don't see it on my fresh glibc install,
but we're still a bit behind with 2.17.

Alrighty then,

Thomas
