If you think glibc is at fault, try compiling glibc with i686
archspecs. Everything should still work fine. glibc just won't be as
optimized as it could be.

You should really get a core dump though to see what the cause is
though. It's possible that libc.so isn't the cause. In your first
email, java didn't seem to freezing, but had core dumps disabled.
Perhaps go back to that version and get a core dump from that.

pc stands for program counter and indicates the location of the
instruction currently being executed (or in this case where it got the
SIGSEGV signal).
