Ok

I am running 2.6.19.5 and have /dev/sda[1-6]

Yes I have chosen both AHCI and ata_piix which used to then get me the option mentioned below.

Unfortunately as of around 2.6.21 or so they have removed this option even with the combination above.

I have also tried selecting ALL options in the SATA section of the kernel config and still
no joy :(

So I am not sure, as I can find no literature to support why it was removed, whether I am supposed to
still have a /dev/sdaX device for my SATA connection or if this is no longer required.

I hope this is a little clearer

Craig

I'll take it from your reply I have missed something.

Are you implying that I no longer require a /dev/sda block device for
my SATA
drive anymore?

I had not seen information to point me this way but it would save me
the problem.

Well it depends on your BIOS and your kernel config... But yes it is in a
few cases possible to use hda instead of sda... BTW did you enable AHCI
support in the kernel's sata config? Afaik that is what should provide you
with sdX stuff

Howdy all

I have been bashing my head on this one for the last day or so, and
I know it will be a simple answer but
I am too close to see it.

So, I need to choose the option CONFIG_SATA_INTEL_COMBINED=Y in
kernel 2.6.24 (Currently running 2.6.19.5 [yes been a while])

I have also tried using the new ISO that was recently posted on here
to try and it was unable to
detect my drive as /dev/sda only /dev/hda (I believe kernel is
2.6.21)

Most of my research says it may have been removed but I cannot for
the life of me figure out
what has replaced it.

I have also switched on every sata option with still no joy :(

Any help with this would be appreciated.

Craig

And I have still yet to figure out what your problem acctually is....
