I have spent the past couple of years trying to figure this out when I
had the time, and I am getting nowhere near an answer, so it's time to
see if anyone else has any insight.

I have a few Windows 2003 servers, a few SMGL servers, and a x86_64 SMGL
workstation.

One of the Windows 2003 servers is a DFS root, and I've tried to mount
the DFS root itself, but I get weird folder hierarchies (I suppose the
DFS links can't be resolved correctly?). So, instead, I have to
manually mount each share, which works fine. Has anyone heard of CIFS
supporting DFS? No bid deal here. But if I could get my PC to mount
just the DFS, instead of each individual share, life would be grand.

Another issue I have, and the primary reason I'm writing this, is that
when this PC is shut down, and the shares had been mounted during that
session, I get a really weird mass of kernel errors that fill up the
entire screen and the PC never shuts off. I'm not terribly
knowledgeable about how a Linux PC shuts down, but I'd guess this
happens right as all file systems are being unmounted. I take it by
this time the network has been stopped, so could this be the problem?
This is not the first instance of SMGL on this PC, by the way (I've
installed from ISO many times), and it's happened before.

I've tried to write a script that is called from haltmisc that loops
through each share in /mnt/dfs/* and umounts them. But sometimes this
fails. Actually, quite often this is not successful. The easy solution
is that I could just remember to manually unmount the shares before I
shut down. But this should be doable automatically.

Lastly, it seems only root an use the mount.cifs command, and I can't
seem to figure out how to allow other users run the command.

So what I am asking for is this:
* Does anyone know if CIFS supports DFS?
* How can I make the system unmount the shares correctly at shutdown?
Or, how can I make the CIFS shares unmount before the network is
shut down (if applicable)
* How to allow users other than root to use the mount.cifs command
