I am in the process of moving the @sourcemage.org mail aliases onto our own
systems (finally). To make this manageable, I need to do some clean up.
Right now, we have various kinds of addresses:
1) developer aliases:
realname AT sourcemage.org
nick AT sourcemage.org
somethingelse AT sourcemage.org
These will all normalize down to scmloginid AT sourcemage.org, with
nick AT sourcemage.org and somethingelse AT sourcemage.org available as well.
So every dev will have at least scmloginid@, with the option of also
having nick@ and whatever other username forms make reasonable sense, all
pointing the same place.
2) component lead aliases, project aliases, etc:
These will get pointed at whichever scmloginid@ alias is currently the
owner.
3) grimoire section aliases:
I want some feedback on these. I frankly would just as soon toss them.
There are a *ton* of these, many of which are out of date, and IMO it's
a silly amount of overhead to deal with when with our current numbers we
all just work on whatever needs doing regardless. I know some of you
are using these as your bugzilla logins but I don't like that either; as
people have noted before, that means if someone else takes ownership of
the section, they end up with all your bugzilla baggage even outside of
their own section. And as said I really want to see us switch to
grimoire bugs all getting assigned to sm-grimoire-bugs, not individual
section addresses.
Further, most of our aliases like this only get spam anyway. I know,
I'm PL and get a lot of these straight to me now, and it's all noise.
Comments on this one? Is it going to make people mad if they lose these
aliases? Is there another argument for keeping them?
I want to resolve this pretty quickly; right now I've been holding off on
doing mail alias changes through ibiblio because of the reliability and
delay, I'd like to get it on our own stuff so we can process it reasonably.
