Hi all,

I'm looking in to subscribing the Source Mage mailing lists to gmane (as
per the tome to-do list), and I'd like your thoughts on a couple of
things:

I plan on creating gmane.linux.sourcemage.<listname> newsgroups
(possibly minus the SM- on the mailing list name), as other linux
distributions seem to do.

Sounds good (including minus the sm-).

I believe we should make the posting permissions through gmane
"Non-Public", which means posting through gmane is only allowed for list
members.

Our lists get some spam, which is blocked by our handy moderaters and
requiring clearance to post. I'm not sure how well gmane would block
spammers (I see craploads of spam on other MLs that are opened via
gmane (e.g. the GNU/HURD mailing lists, the pkg-config lists, etc.)
and would not like to see our lists spammed that way. Perhaps if gmane
goes through mailman when it posts (e.g. if someone posts through
gmane it still goes through the regular mailman channels then we can
still block/authorize at that level) then I think we could make it
public.

I'm not sure that email addresses should be encrypted - doubt there's
much benefit when the mailing list archives are out in the public eye
anyway.

That's what spam filters are for. ;) I really dislike hiding e-mail
addresses as it just makes it more difficult for the legit users to
use (i.o.w. they have to retype/modify your e-mail address instead of
just click or copy&paste).

There's an option to add the list to www.mail-archive.com as well,
though I'm not sure we'd need or want to do that.

The more archives the merrior (spread the load, faster on different
continents, more Google hits, etc. ;)).

If you've got any thoughts on any of this, please let me know... If
nobody puts any input in I'll just go set things up how *I* figure they
should be done. muahaha.

He who implements, decides. ;)

Thanks,

Thanks!
