Hi,

we have a volunteer for a new section apps-emacs (see bug 6999[1]).
I think it's a good idea to have a new section for emacs based apps if
there are that many, just want to get some input whether people agree
and what the name of the section should be.

This is a dangerous path... how far are we going to keep splitting? the
apps name suggests apps-*
I already hate having to search for the correct section in audio-* and
video-* and x11-* and ftp-* and chat-*

I am against this from the beginning... I like simplicity (KISS) so
would rather have large sections than multiple sections (unknown and/or
un-rememberable for me).

I'm neither for or against splitting but I have two ideas to think about:

1. If we are going to split how about using the same grouping as Gentoo. This has two advantages: we gain their experience in what is a good way to split software and anyone coming from gentoo to sourcemage will feel some familiarity.

2. Posibility of putting category tag into the DETAILS file, such as "audio video games library". Then spells can be listed according to multiple categories. There will be a fixed list of categories. This would allow the dierectories to be split according to maintainer. But I'm not sure it's a good idea since directores would change a lot.

Just something to think about.

Duane.
