Yes, I did think PCRE and installed it from stable, but there was no go.
I'm not sure if they are built in functions or in a library which either hasn't been installed or found.

I'll check the checksums and dispels it etc...

When you dispel php, is anything left in /usr/share/pear? If no, try removing this directory and casting php again.
