Hi Robin,

I had the same problem last week...

Check your /etc/password for the shell (at the end of the line). It should
point to /bin/sh, and not /bin/bash or be null.

Don't ask my why it works like that, but I changed /bin/bash to /bin/sh and it
works again...

BTW after this issue, I went on troubles with Linux-PAM (upgraded from 0.75 to
0.77) and the only way to get out of this one was to dispel Linux-PAM and goes
without PAM at all... I would double check that too if I were you...
