thanks. but how do i change the behavior? i think it's kind of unfair that it just ignores /etc/hostname, then what's the point of having a hostname file at all (if you are using dhcp this is, not static).

PS I use dhcp


Mine also changes names when I'm on my Univ.'s network, but at home (where
_I_ control the DHCP server ;)) it stays the same. It used always be the
same, no matter where I was, but now the script uses whatever DHCP
returns, rather than what I told it to use in /etc/hostname
