do we have a 'test' team? i know that we have gurus and it seems like they are the ones that see to test things, but a lot of stuff seems to slip through and i think a dedicated testing team might be an idea to toss around.

What do you mean with 'consider'?

Firstly, I didn't mean this as a personal attack, so please don't take it as one. It's just a general concern. it could have been anybody (even me :)

The thing is, the drive to have the latest & greatest versions of software can and will get you into trouble. A decade of system management has taught me that.

So with "consider" I mean, think of what might break and try that. No one can ask you to rebuild after a version bump, but with a "gaze depends" you could have seen the dependencies and cast them...

Also, the documentation of db says the API of several db functions have changed going from 4.0 to 4.1. So problems should have been expected.

I knew there was the chance that some spells get broken, but I don't
have the time and resources to cast the whole grimoire after each
update. This is what the devel grimoire is intended for.

I don't agree. You can expect some unstableness in the devel grimoire, but I don't think we should be using it as sandbox. I think these kind of changes should be floated on the discuss or grimoire list first, for people to check and test (and break) before going into the grimoire.
