Non-nvidia accelerated GLX won't work without DRM.
DRM has been in the kernel sources for a while, but until 2.4.18 it was for
xfree86 version 4.0. In 2.4.18 they switched to a version that worked with
xfree86 4.1 and 4.2 (the old version is availible under a seperate option).
So, to get GLX to work, you have to compile it into your kernel now.
