this whole saga started when hal got broken on my amd64 system. It kept
crashing, and I could not run X without hal. Hal is deprecated anyway.
Rebuilding X failed for me, so I looked at the latest xorg-server, which,
after updating many xorg spells to the RC version, now works for me with hal
disabled. I still have hal installed, because KDE needs it in order to build.

As I did not want to lose my work, I committed the changes.


Regarding the INSTALL script, I checked the install logs, and everything
looked the same as before. FINAL resets the symlinks anyway.
