And that's the rub, what happens when doomsday comes and most all the seeds in the vault are no longer viable? Than the project has become useless

gee, i'd guess that as long as they could - it would be easier to replace most of the stock there, rather than truly grow it out.  I'd be curious to see how they handle the rare ones tho.........surely they have provision for the endangered ones.
