All of my hives have plenty of stores, so I'm not having to feed right now. But they aren't bringing in any appreciable amount of nectar.

Chris,

The most important factor regarding when to work with your bees is, what time is convenient for you? I prefer to mess with my bees early afternoon, but 5 p.m. is fine too. Too late in the evening and all the grumpy foragers will be at home with nothing to do but give you a hard time. You can still mess with them then but expect more stings.

Don't worry about the high temperature, except to the extent that you personally don't want to get heat stroke. Bees are excellent at heating and cooling their brood nest to maintain a constant 95 degrees and constant high humidity. They easily handle the disruption cause by normal inspections. People agonize over bees way too much over things that are not important in the least. They aren't made of porcelain or eggshells. They are, by nature, very tough and adaptable.

The spring honey flow is over. There isn't any need to add honey supers.

I want to take a real good look at my bees and clean up some of the wax they have been putting in a few places that cause a little trouble. The weather is getting rather hot so I'm wondering what time of day is best to dig in to the hive? I've been at work this weekend so morning aren't an option until next weekend. I get home around 5pm most days, so will that work? I'm worried that they will have the hive temp like they want it and then I'll go in and caused them a lot of grief. I haven't seen anything that concerns me except that I need to get some of the build up cleaned on the sides of a couple frames. I may need to add a super because the last time I was in the top/2nd deep they were active on 6 of the frames. If I do this, can I add another deep (What I have on hand) or should I pick up the supplies for some medium suppers? Thanks!
