Wish I were in such a favorable climate ;-)
But make no mistake - Dioscorea species are mostly toxic when raw, this propably also goes for the leaves - sweet potatoes vertainly are greens as well as roots.

The many varieties of true yams (dioscorea), sweet potato and boniato (ipomoea) grow great in Florida and both leaves and root are edible. They have many uses and produce prolific food in small spaces (a friend plants sweet pototoes and moves to Maine for the summer, and comes back to harvest 600 pounds from his front yard, in October)

Here is a quick list of sources for the following Andean root crops: Yacon,
Oca, Mashua. Google the company names.
-Horizon Herbs
-Nichol's Garden Nursery
-One Green World
-Seeds of Change (at least they used to before they went totally corporate)

There are probably others. In Colorado I grow Yacon and Oca in a greenhouse
with excellent success. I think Yacon is the best personally. Mushroom
(Kapuler) is growing yacon and making syrup out of it as a low glycemic
sugar substitute.

Also there are many perennial root crops that aren't from the Andes. Eric
Toensmeier has documented them well in Perennial Vegetables. Things like
groundnut, mint root, skirret, and even the root of winged bean. You can
now get plants directly from Eric's garden via Food Forest Farm. I
recommend ordering early.

Also Mushroom is listed in the Seed Saver's exchange and you may be able to
get some of these rare Andean root crops directly from him via that
channel.
