Lawrence,
I don't think it's fair to compare a Monsanto representative to Stalin or
Hitler.... Monsanto is much worse.

Read what I said above. Would you allow Joe Stalin or Adolph Hitler into a
forum
you own and allow them to freely express their point of view, or
representatives
of monsanto....
Keeping that sort of thing out of an emerging, developing community is a
matter
of practicality, protecting your own, preserving your ability to survive, all
worth the effort.

I'm reposting the following sentence in the hopes that I might
actually get a response from the list this time.

*In regard to removing people from the list, please add my vote
for a warning first.**...on list...in front of peers...with a
clear statement of the rule violated.*

Is this too much to ask? Is it difficult to do? Would it be too
embarrassing? What are the problems involved?

The Amish practice "shunning" to express their disapproval of an
other's behavior. Perhaps we can declare publicly that we are
selectively shunning a person who repeatedly violates agreed trusts
(rules).

*From Wikipedia: Shunning* is the act of deliberately avoiding
association with, and habitually keeping away from, an individual
or group. It is a sanction against association, often associated
with religious <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religious> groups and
other tightly knit organizations and communities. Targets of
shunning can include, but are not limited to, apostates
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apostates>, whistleblowers
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whistleblowers>, dissidents
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dissidents>, people classified as
"sinners" or "traitors" and other people who defy or who fail to
comply with the standards established by the shunning group(s) [or
moderators].

Of course for this to be effective the "violator" would have to feel
some degree of shame, especially in the eyes of their peers whose
opinion they, presumably, value. One could hope they would be moved
toward contrition and apology for dramatizing reactivity, which would
be mature and grownup. The reactive (adolescent? pre-adolescent?)
personality would merely RE-dramatize / "act out" their reaction and
would be clearly identifiable and thus, justifiably, removed from the
list.
