Here is an interesting example of an aquaponics design being done in Ukiah
(thanks to Bill Baker for telling me about this). The claim of being 100%
sustainable seems a little dubious, given the embedded energy of the
greenhouse materials, but if it works it will be an interesting way to grow
fish and vegetables in colder climates.

As Ive written before on this list serve, FDA opened a docket to accept
comments for on-farm produce safety regulations in February. That docket
closes May 24 (this coming Monday). FDA is in the process of writing
regulations for produce safety on the farm. Please note they are not
waiting for food safety legislation to pass in Congress to act, but have
begun that process already.
Many farmers in Western NC participated in the listening sessions NC
Farm Bureau put on in March and April. Today I submitted comments to FDA
based on those 17 sessions. Also submitted is a report of the comments
recorded from the growers who were present. Both of these documents are
attached. We encourage you to also submit comments to FDA as well.
When you log in to the www.regulations.gov <http://www.regulations.gov/>
site and search for FDA-2010-N-0085, youll also be able to see comments
submitted by others around the country.
