Hi Dan, Lawrence, Mal and all interested in this thread,

I too am passionate about the idea of applying the permaculture principles
to People Care, including mental health, social health, conflict
resolution, community building etc. A while ago I started a google group
called
"perma-psychology" that anyone can join, and am in communication with others
interested in this topic, like Andy Fisher of Canada, author of "Radical
Ecopsychology" who will be teaching a two week intensive summer course on
this
topic at the University of Vermont this year (see below). I'm currently
writing an essay on this for an anthology being edited by Craig Chalquist, a
psychology professor at JFK University in the San Francisco Bay area who is
starting his PDC this weekend. Craig and I edited an anthology called
"Ecotherapy: Healing with Nature in Mind" for Sierra Club Books last year.

I'd love to hear from anyone else interested in this topic.

Cheers,

Andy Fisher is teaching a two week ecopsychology intensive in June 2010.
It is a full credit Environmental Studies course, run through Continuing
Ed. For more info, go to the University of Vermont website and click on
"Summer University," where you’ll find details. The course is ENVS 195 Z4.

Hi Dan,

Great area to be passionate about, Care of People is about much more than
the traditional nutrition and housing etc. (zones 0-5). For us to reach our
true permacultural potential as individuals and as a society we also need
to
focus on the psychological and spiritual aspects of our lives and that of
our children (sometimes referred to as zone 00).
It is whilst contemplating the parenting of my own children that I came
across a book which I recommend to anyone interested in the topic.

"Parenting for a Peaceful World" by Robin Grille 2005 Longueville Media -
http://www.our-emotional-health.com/book-peacefulWorld.html .

Robin explains the relationship between childhood experiences and adult
attitudes. He takes us through an account of the parenting techniques of
the
last several thousand years and their influence over some of the more nasty
and unpleasant periods in history. He then shows us the positive evolution
that is taking place in parenting style that will lift our species out of
violence and conflict and towards the world we in permaculture are working
toward.

Regards,
Mal

Nothing so entrepreneurial, yet.. I meant to refer to the way I am
administering my own education.

I'm still working on integrating the design principles with how I interact
with and view the my world. I have been spending a lot of time traveling.
Last year I was fortunate enough to work on a permaculture site in the West
Bank, where I first realized the transformative potential of permaculture's
approach to... anything confusing!

I believe that permaculture has a lot to offer the realm of conflict
resolution and prevention. I found myself more easily able to cope with
the
levantine dynamic by regarding Israel and Palestine as a design challenge
instead of a conflict defined by subjective feelings of entitlement and a
bitter cascade of resentiment upon resentiment. And I hope to contribute
to
true solutions there one day.

Currently I'm far far away from that world in sunny Kalama, WA. working
toward a deeper understanding of permaculture's foundation and geneology...
I'm on that step number 1, long protracted observation and meditation.

Intern status! with Abundance PC.

But conflict resolution and community is where my heart is... So if you've
got any insight into educational opportunities down that road I'd love to
explore them. My developing passion is design for the psychological
systems
we employ in our relationships to one another, and I'd love to meet a
permaculture designer who is already developing methodology along these
lines.

Thanks for asking,
Dan
