hey kerrick

i'm at Trent University in Ontario, Canada, just moved here from Vancouver
where i did my undergrad at UBC.
i'm in a program called "modelling for the natural and social sciences" and
i'm within the department of geography here. my supervisor is an
agricultural specialist, but he's fairly conventional and so i'm sort of
soul searching on own here, trying to find a topic that really suits my
interests (sustainable development, food security, conservation of species
and ecosystem services). i just received at $12,000 grant towards my project
and would love to contribute to some real community effort somewhere, the
only catch is that my project has to be quite "science-y" and i have to
either use or build a model as part of my project. my supervisor was
suggesting perhaps building a neural network to examine the interactions and
synergies between the biotic and abiotic components of an ecologically based
agricultural system, so i was hoping to find a project that i could sort of
insert myself into, since i only really have about a year left (this year
was mostly class work).

i'll definitely check out uc berkeley site, thanks for the suggestion, and
if you have any other ideas i'd love to hear about them!
thanks

sarah
