Permaculture College Australia Launch
Introducing Permaculture College Australia and other news

January 2010 Update

You are invited to join us for the official launch of
Permaculture College Australia, Friday 29th January, 5-7pm,
at Djanbung Gardens. Refreshments will be available and a contribution
(muchies, drinks, donations, helping hand) is, as always, gratefully
accepted.

2010 is a year of big changes at Djanbung Gardens. This news update
summarises what in store for the year.
Name Change
What was formerly known as the Erda Institute has now changed its name to
Permaculture College Australia to better reflect and communicate the nature
of the vocational training and community education programs it offers from
its facilities at Djanbung Gardens. Permaculture College Australia (PCA)
remains a non-profit incorporated association dedicated to education and
vocational training in sustainability, and will continue to develop and
expand on the pioneering work instigated by the Erda team and Robyn Francis¹
Permaculture Education.

Over the coming months the website will be revitalised and updated in line
with the name change and promote PCA as national and international leader in
permaculture education and professional development.

TAFE Partnership
In 2010, PCA will be partnering with the National Environment Centre,
Riverina TAFE in the delivery of full time (austudy-approved) Accredited
Permaculture Training for Cert III, Cert IV and Diploma of Permaculture,
and a flexible learning program for Cert IV. Flexible learning combines
short course training and ongoing home-based project work and studies for
those who aren¹t in a situation to participate in full-time studies at
Djanbung Gardens.

New Program
The new program for full-time students has been adjusted to better
facilitate two intakes each year of students for Cert III, IV and Diploma
programs. Most of the face-to-face training will be covered in one semester
with the follow-up semester structured as mentored flexible learning for
completing projects, research and practical work to complete qualification
assessment requirements. The PCA training and student resources for 2010 are
also being upgraded with changes and improvements from the national APT
re-accreditation review of 2009, and in response to student feedback.
2010 intakes: Semester 1, Feb 15 € Semester 2, Jul 3

Fast-Track Option
This year will see the APT fast-track option introduced in the Winter/spring
school semester, when the 18 week semester is condensed into a 13 week
program. New intakes will complete the July intensive PDC and Advanced
Design Skills/FLOW in 3 weeks followed by 10 weeks of full-time Cert III-IV
and diploma training.

This option is also ideal for overseas participants on visitor and working
holiday visas who can legally study for a maximum of 13 weeks. However, due
to national policies overseas students cannot be issued with an AQTF
qualification without having a student visa. PCA aims to eventually apply
for CRICOS registration (for student visa status), but this will be at some
point in the future. Meanwhile, PCA offers internships for overseas visitors
to participate in the training and fast-track gaining knowledge and skills
to be more effective and professional permaculturists. All course
participants (including overseas) will receive our internal PCA course
completion certificates for modules undertaken.

Bioregional Campus and Support Network
Over the past few years the Bioregional Campus network has been evolving and
this year PCA will focus on consolidating and expanding the network. A board
of advisors will be formalised as well as working groups for specific areas
of work and support. Working groups will include a media and promotion team,
a language support network for overseas students, and a community education
and outreach team.

Flexible Learning Cert IV in Permaculture - if you've already completed a
PDC the Advanced Design Skills/Flexible Learning Orientation workshop
(ADS/FLOW) for Semester 1 enrolments is January 25-28 - a few places left so
dont miss this chance to get started. Next ADS/FLOW will be in July for
semester 2 intakes. Further info about Flexible Learning
