requests donations and supplies

A member of Horne Memorial United Methodist Church in Clayton who is on her 43rd mission trip to Haiti continues to send e-mail messages about the devastation and needs on this poor Caribbean nation following earthquake damage.

The Mission to Haiti team is outside Port-Au-Prince near the airport. Little said the destruction is extensive and there are many deaths. The team she is with includes medical personnel. They are providing all the assistance they can but are running short of medical and other supplies.

The team leader has sent an e-mail that he has talked with the Coast Guard in Miami and hopes they can deliver supplies.

Little requested specific supplies, donations, and prayers. Donations can be made to assist Haiti through designated contributions at any United Methodist Church. Write Haiti on the memo line or write Advance # 418325. On-line donations can be made at new.gbgm-umc.org/umcor or by calling the Advance office ( 212-870-3790 212-870-3790).

Horne Memorial in Clayton (Clayton, North Carolina) is collecting supplies and has arranged for a private flight to leave for Haiti on Thursday morning. Medical supplies are the immediate need on this flight. Clothing is not need at this time. Items for Horne should be delivered to Carolina Graphic Printing at 501 Atkinson Street , Clayton. Volunteers are also needed to work with the supplies.

Supplies can also be delivered to MERCI, the conference disaster relief warehouse at 676 Community Drive in Goldsboro, N.C. Supplies to Horne that do not get on the flight to Haiti will be taken to MERCI for shipment.

Immediate medical supplies requested from physicians on the team are:

Plastic or Fiberglass Casting
Suture 3-0,4-0 Nylon
Suture Instrument Kits
Betadine
4x4 Dressing
Roll Gauze
Web Roll for Casting
Saline IV and Irrigation
Injectible Pain Medication
Injectible Antibiotics IV and IM Rocephin, Ancef, Kflex

External Fixture

Tools to put the in (tool boxes)
Traction Bows and Pins

Non-medical needs include:

Blankets
Sheets
Towels
Wash Clothes
Health Kits*
Food
Tarps

*A Health Kit contains specific items:
1 hand towel (15 x 25 up to 17 x 27)
1 wash cloth
1 comb (large and sturdy, not pocket-sized)
1 nail file or fingernail clippers (no emery boards or toenail clippers)
1 bath-size bar of soap (3 oz and up)
1 toothbrush (single brush only in original wrapper; no child-sized brushes)
1 large tube of toothpaste
6 adhesive plastic strip sterile bandages
All items should be placed inside a sealed one-gallon plastic bag. No other items should be included in the Health Kit
