Hallo Dward,
Human manure doesn't 'have to be' hot composted, the Buddhafield group in UK
use compost toilets built from Transcubes (the metakl frame enclosed plastic
containers used to ship fluids on cargo ships) these are then inocculted with
a compost activator and left for a year ( UK has a longish cold season so
that skows things down) and the subsequent compost is used on the trees at
their site Broadhembury.
Basically their system resembles what you want to do with your barrels, with
them it works fine. There is a film on Youtube somwhere where the builder of
these toilets explains all, he uses the name johnny thunderbox.
Anaerobic digestion would be another solution, again you could use the same
plastic containers, they are around 1000ltrs and in France cost 80€ in Turkey
around 100tl.
I think you sent me an email about the Université Populaire de Permaculture
(www.permaculturefrance.org) ? By the time it got forwardeed to me in Turkey
it had lost your email address.
regards
Steve Read
