Some scientists have found that carbonized chicken feathers can be used
as a hydrogen storage medium (see link below), but what's most interesting
about this to me is the implicit fact that carbonized chicken feathers have
some similar properties to nanotubes (i.e. gigantic surface areas) which
means there must be a MILLION uses for them. And they are a local
material which can be produced at home with some fairly simple
infrastructure (a kiln that can be temperature controlled to 700 deg C).
I would call on everyone who has the capabilities to experiment with this
and publish their results as widely as possible as soon as possible to
preempt companies grabbing lots of patents on this fantastic material.
