I've seen them shredded (and possibly processed in other ways
pre-shred) and used as filler on playgrounds (instead of sand, mulch,
etc.), and I'm not thrilled about that practice for a variety of
reasons. And I know that some highway departments will reuse them in
road resurfacing.

I've seen some planters (for decorative plants only, one hopes) made
from tires, and in the right quirky setting they can look lovely. In
searching for an illustration of a nice-looking planter, I came across
