Hi Rain,
No sealant, we used a fine cement made with dolomite. Leaking, if it happens, is not a big deal for us. Also, we have no fan, though we could. Most of the time it isn't needed because of the stack effect.

Did you need to coat the inside of the ferrocement with a waterproof sealant? I'm thinking about an indoor application. Indoors, venting is also more important and I've had to install a small, DC fan to reduce the odor during use. We have crazy wind and air flow issues.
