Doh, silly me. Of course you're right, and I have no idea what Mollison meant in that case. This could be a typo.

For me the only difference between northern and southern hemisphere is that the Sun moves above the southern horizon in the former case and above the northern horizon in the latter.

But in both hemisphere the sun rises at East and sets at West. So why would the cooler/warmer sides be different?
