Dear friends,

now we also have the english Version of our recent press-release (see below).

Best wishes,
Ronny

It requires an entire village

In all parts of the world ecovillages in the form of sustainable model
settlements are developed. The only Austrian project of this kind,
KEIMBLATT OEKODORF, is scientifically accompanied by the University of Graz.

"The aim of these ecological villages is to combine sustainability with a
high quality of life" says Ronny Wytek, project coordinator of KEIMBLATT
OEKODORF. Mr. Wytek and Mr. Clemens Mader from the "Regional Center of
Expertise Education for Sustainable Development (RCE)" agree that such an
innovation in Austria requires a lot of basic groundwork. Mr. Mader and the
RCE Styria represent the interface between scientific and lived
sustainability and have therefore launched the ecovillage-project within
the University of Graz.

University of Graz - fertile ground for the "Keimblatt"

Mr. Gerald Steiner from the Institute of Systems Science, Innovation, and
Sustainability research and Mrs. Filippina Risopoulos, agent for
sustainability at the University of Graz also agreed to cooperate.

"In Austria, the idea of ecovillages is still in its infancy our aim is a
scientific base" says Mr. Gerald Steiner. "Of course we will also accompany
the child through adolescence" adds Mrs. Fillipina Risopoulos. Both
scientists will work with their students on questions as e.g. "How can a
region economically, ecologically and socially benefit from the creation of
an ecovillage? Topics such as "The influence on the regional ecosystem",
"Improvement of the regional infrastructure, work environment, and
purchasing power" are highlighted.

Lived sustainability as subject of research

Mr. o. Univ.-Prof. Friedrich M. Zimmermann in his function as vice-dean of
the faculty of environmental, regional, and educational science at
University of Graz approves of the cooperation of KEIMBLATT OEKODORF and
the Uni-Graz: "In times where we use natural resources at the expense of
future generations, an increasingly insecured society can only benefit from
studies of realistic concepts of life, which include all facets of
sustainability". He refers to his research of sustainable regional
development and studies of the University of Kassel that compare the level
of sustainability of different life styles in terms of habitation,
mobility, and nutrition. Therefore the average outputs of CO2 equivalents
throughout Germany and of three joint projects have been calculated. The
Ecovillage Sieben Linden (Germany) shows the highest level of
sustainability (see graph).

Mr. Wytek underlines these results: "Different areas of sustainability
cannot be treated separately. It requires an entire village to make
sustainability liveable and explorable. Austria should take the chance to
combine such initiatives with the available body of research."
